medical records in collaboration with our friends at crispy nuggets blog are happy to reissue a very obscure australian gem from the 1980s. ironing music were a three piece band from brisbane. they originally formed in 1984 as a result of their collective love for new order, human league and eventually jean michel jarre and cabaret voltaire. comprised of bass and electic guitar, yamaha dx-7, melodica and an 808, they recorded a 12- single as their sole outpt in 1985 in a limited run of 250 copies (obviously excruciatingly rare now!). it was recorded in their bedroom studio with at teac 4 track. the video clip for the -hit- shopping bag women was played on several national and local television music shows. they also recorded demos in hopes of landing a lp deal which unfortunately didn t attract any takers at the time. they actually only played 3 gigs and were forced to disband after one of their members fell ill in 1986. the lp presented here included the original 4 track single as well as hand picked demos which nicely congeal to form a well rounded lp documenting the band s brief existence. they can best be described as lo-fi synth pop with an emphasis on excellent pop songs and interesting synth/instrument arrangements. the first track shopping bag women is infectiously catchy and just screams to be worn out in the club. fans of early to mid 80s synth pop and new romantic will fall in love. the tracks have been lovingly remastered by martin bowes at the cage, london. features original reproduction of the front cover painting. presented in a limited edition on 180gram vinyl.

suction records is thrilled and honoured to announce the reissue of d arcangelo s self-titled debut ep for rephlex, the legendary uk label run by aphex twin and grant wilson-claridge from 1991-2013. d arcangelo are the italian duo of brothers fabrizio and marco d arcangelo, active in the underground electronic scene under various aliases since the early 90s, and still going strong today. released in 1996, their rephlex debut -d arcangelo- was one of the first releases to make a firm connection between contemporary idm/electronix and the sound of 80s synth pop. the 3 tracks on side a are ripping, industrial-strength electronix, as fierce, crunchy and menacing anything aphex twin himself had released at the time. in sharp contrast, side b s 3 tracks are playful, clean and melodic instrumental synthpop, with clear synthetic references to bands like depeche mode and omd. it was a sound that was certainly not in fashion at the time, and helped the ep stand out in 1996, for that very reason.

with just one 7inch release to their name in the form of the 1981 release, jive baby on a saturday night, the cult of the jellies was possibly accidentally assured with the long lost song being rediscovered by collectors and championed by sonic youth s thurston moore no less. picked up and reissued by the stellar trunk records in 2010, the b-side cut, however, was sadly overlooked. now emotional rescue are proud to license the conversation and remaster it especially for this rerelease. based around a simple drum and bass rhythm, interspersed with crowd noise, playful female vocal yelps and sprinkled with dub effects thrown in to the mix and you wouldn t probably think too much would be going for a track that the band put together in the last two hours of their studio time after jive baby had been completed. however, what you get is a killer gem of pop-punk-dub oddness that gets your head nodding to its infectious, repetitive rhythm laden with effects. with just this one (perfect) track available for license it seemed only right to hand it over to the in-house production team, apophenia, to do their increasingly trademark dubbed out reworking, this time in the form of a true, but respectful version for the flip. with both members of the jellies sadly now living overseas this piece of early 80s british dub as it were, can now be fully treasured for posterity while also, proving a nice little smokers delight.

on thanksgiving 1989, kmart employee and audio enthusiast mark davis wandered behind the customer service desk to check out the store�s sound system, which looped muzak and top 40 plus ads and announcements under the banner of �kmrt, the kmart radio network.� when he found last month�s tape hadn�t been thrown out yet, he pocketed it and made a habit of doing this, collecting 56 tapes from 1989-1992. in september 2015, davis uploaded the tapes to archive.org with the humble intention of preserving them. but within a few weeks he became an internet celebrity among obscure media fans and supplemented the collection with reel-to-reel tapes from the 70s and 80s thanks to tom schwarzrock, who acquired them serendipitously along with a deck he purchased. the tapes are like a consumerist time capsule, a vaporwave trove of eerily familiar corporate ephemera extracted from its original context and purpose. similarly, attention kmart choppers is composed of pieces from this collection chopped up, resculpted, and mosaicked together by juicy the emissary, forming a new, distinctly contemporary sound while inheriting a haunting nostalgia that provokes memories burrowed deep in the subconscious

i released the original 12inch volume of five fingers of death battle breaks way back in 1998, while i was living in oakland and then san francisco during a time of incredible movement and creativity within the suddenly exploding scratch dj scene. the term turntablist, coined by dj disk, had yet to really catch on outside of the bay area scratch fraternity. having recently moved to california from new york, pauls turntable aesthetics were strictly 80s east coast and was more concerned with catching doubles (beat juggling) and overall party rocking. in other words, the science of scratching was not something i was even contemplating.needless to say, i was completely amazed and overwhelmed with what djs like qbert, shortcut, apollo and mixmaster mike were doing. joe morgans stop them is killer late 70s militant roots, self-produced and originally released on his own jomor music house label (under the name billy joe morgan) in nyc. awesome vocal, majestic horns, heavy rhythm, a shining example of the brilliance of late 70s roots reggae and how perfectly suited the style was for the extended mix 12inch single discomix format. we ve added something special for this reissue (now on joe s main imprint fish tea). not only do we have the original 12inch replicated in full, but also an awesome and previously unreleased late 80s digital recut of the tune entitled warrior. unfortunately a dub version for this cut was never mixed, but we are grateful to have uncovered another gem from mr. morgan, one of the crucially under recorded and underrated artists of his time.
